doing a gig for parker and juniper this weekend
doing performance and a panel on 'starting'
5 minute opening statement, this mine:
---------------
You Got this:
1st let me express my appreciation for being part of this
thing you do and the opp to dialoge w/my fellow panelists
So. Working on what I hope to be a sacred text, the hoodoo way:
pilgrimage and transformation, started this piece in dialogue with last
attempt at a sacred text, the hoodoo book of flowers, a wouldbe
afroam holybook whereas this one is a more universalized text but
1st draft soon realized I was still trying to get the last book right
ive often found that to be the case, that a new book is just
another revision of the last book until it finds its own voice
As for starting a text just do it, new project, just do it
and keep doing it no matter how you feel about doing it
what, pray tell, does how you feel got to do with getting
your work done, put that shit in perspective, burn it as fuel
do it till its done, then judge it, which mean you got to choose
wisely, if a work don’t cost you its probably not worth writing
if there is one take away from a panel on starting I say its just do it,
don’t judge it, just do it, don’t try to make it Good, it wont be,
don’t make me laugh, it’s a 1st draft, its trash, just do it
Judge it and you will discourage yourself, do it. All you want is pages, x pages
a day, you don’t care what they look like, trust yourself, trust the process, doubt
and anxiety, utter despair? never goes away, you learn to ignore them, just do it
and don’t come whining to me when it gets hard, Ima tell you now its hard ,
if it was easy everybody would go down the street and get some
but you the one chose this path - or the path chose you - samething
I cannot tell you how much I love the literary life, I have lived a life of myth
magic and mystery, dropping wisdom and seeding legacy texts in my wake
I love being a writer, and so will you and I aint gon
whimper when it come time to pay my dues
too busy wrestling with the page, right, everyday, everything
Im got, everyday Ima meet the Beast. Cause that’s what
writers do - and you, my friend, are a writer born - demoja
When the doubt- and the rejections - come I need you to remember that. Your
takeaway? - I got this. Trust the process. Believe. In your calling. Believe. In the
value of what you have to say. You got this. Word. By Rickydoc. You got this.
